Dasavatharam is making waves among film buffs and ardent kamal fans like me are waiting for the movie to get released. The audio got launched recently in mega function.The movie involving kamal in juxtapose of characters right from an aged nanny to a research scientist and a 12th century vainava saint. Now there is an interesting history associated with the movie.During the medeival Chola period the kings were predominantly shaivites(followers of shiva) and kulothunga Chola 2 who stayed in Chidhambaram was a religious fanatic and harmed the peacefull coexistence of shaivites and vaishnavites.He removed the vishnu idol from the chidhambaram temple and it was vehemently opposed by the vaishnava followers.Notable among this was ramanujar who was forced to live in exile and ultimately thrown into sea tied up with the vishnu idol when he refused to worship shiva.This film has this as one of its plot in the story and one of the role kamal acts is of ramanujar and he is thrown into the sea this is is shown in the trailer
. I heard the story involves a complex plot based on Chaos theory let see what the ulaga nayagan comes up with this time.

Sub-Prime Mortage Crisis bane of free market
April 11, 2008 · 5 Comments
Free market fundamentalists have time and again argued the self healing nature of markets and have criticised any regulation to the operation of market forces.But as Marx put forward the capitalistic system is a system of crisis.This happens due to the accumalation of production and as there are no takers in the market the investment dries out leading to a collapse.The sub-prime mortage crisis that has affected the US and also the world financial markets is a one that has resulted out from greed for market financial operations without any logic remainds us of the economic crisis of the thirties. For those like me with no knowledge on economics the traditional banking system works the following way any bank has depositors who invest money for long time interests and security.The bank lends this money to those asking for loans based on the logic that the amount of money withdrawn would be far less than the money invested thus guaranteeing that the financial system is stable.But what happens in case of a rumour that investors start demanding money they invested in that case the central bank lends support as the whole process is short-term in nature.The traditional banking system was highly regulated in the aftermath of 1939 economic crisis.But in case of time all regulations were replaced by an adhoc system.
It involves lending loans to buy homes to capitalise on the housing bubble to people without any financial backing to repay the loan.Thus when the housing bubble burst the loans became bad and the financial institutions thriving on sub-prime mortages went bankrupt and the share value of these companies collapsed(For example Bear was taken over by JP morgan for 2$ per share).The complete dichotomy was that those flag bearers of deregulation of the financial system are asking for tax payers money to bail out that system from a complete collapse.The Fed has been reducing the interest rate and trying to improve liquidity without any positives.
Effect On India:
Indian banking system is highly regulated and any moves for capital convertibility will prove fatal for financial stability.The Fed rate cut means dollar value going down against ruppee which has affected our export oriented industry.I think its better to consider some cap on FIIs investing in India it brings a lot of speculative capital into the Financial Market.
The global food crisis coupled with the sub-prime crisis may lead to a situation of stagflation in the world economy we are in tough times .

March 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Hmmm time moves so fast with so much happiness my college life gonna end now.It has been a great time of life learnt a lot some amazing experiences amazing people whom i am gonna miss.I was a blank slide when i came in computers bit nervous whether i could cope or excel had a lot of aprehensions i think this college and my seniors provided me with some great passions to chase like free software among others.Thanks to one and all first of all to have made this expedition fruitful.
In the first year i was bit nervous as with most juniors caught up many times with seniors in ragging tussle and had lots of fun started with friends making with like minded people.I entered the department in second semester and i still believe it was the best of all semester for all the good reasons.
In the second year i got involved with the free software community and participated in free software related works like GLUGot and Fstival et al.I also was part of the organizing team in cyber and other symposiums held in the department.I learnt a lot inteam work,organising things.
In third year i was selected the joint secretary of the association and lead my class in organizing Cyber 07 which stands by forth the amazing memories in my life.I had to fight some personal troubles in my third year which painted some bad wounds in my memories.
In addition to it all i was part of poster design for Fstival once,designed site for CTech a private company nad redesigned TCENET css and designed the tecuthsav site.I was part of python development in TCENEt for a short period.Plaisir gave me some oppurtunities to explore my co-curricular abilities to a greater extent.
In the final year i got placed in TCS and motorola and enjoyed throughout with many different activities from my project to floodlights cricket etc.
It was some of my great friends who supported me some have walked with me during midnight performing some painstaking work be it cyber or fstival ho made it possible.Thanks a lot will misuu you all :S.

Life of late a mixture of emotions- Mar 2,ThunderKnights,Ooty IV et al
March 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Its been long time i have blogged and had quite a few important events that happened in this period.First and foremost I turned 22 this march and i am hating to get aged more of all the responsibility that people remaind me.It was all fun this birthday as we also had Thunderknights the flood lights cricket tounament organised in the hostel.
I remember cricket way back in life started playing it at the age of four and played for more than fourteen years like anyother mad indian passionate,zealous,hyper-excited and what not.I lost much of the lull for cricket when i entered college but this flood light tournament kindled some old passions.
Galatta Gangsters:
We friends played as a team galatta gangsters we reached the semis and lost out to eventual winners rocking rogues
.I opened in most matches and got man of the match for my thirty odd runs and this all fell on my birthday and was really happy.
Ooty IV:
Just as we finished thunder knights the same night March 2 we started to a tour to Ooty and coimbatore.We had a lot of fun with all our department mates took a lot os snapes in others camera especially some natural sceneraies.I have gut preference of avoiding photos and better of behind the lens
.
One of my friend Alagammai got me some cool gifts for my birthday and asked me “hey did you get anything” me:”Errr”(Scratching my head as always) she probably guessed it already and was not much disappointed anyways i am insane robot at times need to change a lot.
Especially when it comes to this gifts,purchases i am clueless.
The final incident was the highlight of the day when we were in train returning to madurai
i just went to the toilet to change my pants and the music player slipped of my pant and fell in the track gush what stupidity.
The player was bothering me a bit especially i wish to live a low-key less-fancy life bit phobiac about electronic goods so its a relief in one sense but yet my dad is in great anger

Fossconf 08 @ MIT chrompet — “man i loved electric trains”
February 10, 2008 · 2 Comments
Hey guys in the first week of February ILUGC(indian linux users group chennai) and NRCFOSS organised a conference on Free and open source software at MIT chrompet.It was a great event we were part of the TCE team as volunteers.From our set me,vins and bala attended the conference it was outright fun all the way.We were accompanied by our juniors who won a prize for best stall congrats to everyone.
We ourself put up stall on “GNU/Linux Networking” and were speaking about DNS server,proxy server and blah-blah but many viewers were novice and first time and we modified the stall as GNU/Linux basics and bored every one on why GNU? whats GNU? and stuff like that.The part i loved was we stayed in my aunts house in T.Nagar every day we used the electric train to reach to chrompet man i loved it i had a fuzzy doubt why so many people use roads in chennai!?.
We attended sessions on Django ,PHP attacks and defences, Parallel programming and introduction to ruby.There was a crpto challenge question was put up in FOSSconf i was not able to mail the results yet came up with a clumsy solution for a question.People please comment on it.
Question:In RSA given the value of n the product of two prime numbers and phi(n) the euler totien value find the value of p&q.
Algorithm:
1)First check whether ‘n’ is even if so return p as 2 and q as n/2 as any even number which is a product of two prime numbers should be 2 and n/2.
2)Else find n-phi(n)-1 this value would be an even number say n is 35 and phi(n) is 24 that is 24 values are relatively prime to 35 the remaining values are 1 and the multiple of 5 and 7 in this case that is p and q.Now u have q-1 multiples of p and p-1 multiples of q which are not relatively prime to n i.e in this case 6 multiples of 4 and 4 multiples of 6.so the value 10=6+4.
3)Now take the value n-phi(n)-1 in this case 10 express it as a sum of two even numbers such that the product of the two numbers is phi(n) add one to the values to obtain p and q.
4)I will post the python implementation soon and hope u would know how bad i code.
Brian Behlendorf the founder of apache foundation was the chief guest for the closing day cermony.He spoke about how open source software is changing the society and he gave real life examples of the impact of open source software.

Saluting Bilkis Bano
January 27, 2008 · 2 Comments
At times when you feel so proud of yourself you get lost in an aura of self praise blinded like an ostrich in a blissful oblivion time and again you hear of great people reminded of great deeds which shatters all myth.The extraordinary valor,courage and zeal of perceverence showed by Bilkis Bano a victim of the gory Gujarat riots seven years ago is truly inspirational.She with six other women were gang raped by a mob of fascist morons,Bilkis was pregnant at the time(cruel shit!) her 3 year old children was smashed in head and killed brutally.Bilkis after recovering from the incident went to a near by police station to register a complaint and she was foxed because of her ignorance.Thanks to the supreme court the investigation was moved to Mumbai this was all after the “modern day Neros” were waging a lost battle in saving the perpetrators of the carnage unleashed upon the innocent Muslims.The postmortem was shabby,heads were cut to prevent identification,chilly powders were thrown upon the body’s etc.After all the struggle 11 of the 14 have been sentenced to life thanks to the effort of Bilkis Bano.
For those who like me who had thought whether progressive thought has taken a beating in Gujarat this is a hope at the end of the tunnel.Ordinary people of Gujarat don’t even feel a sense of remorse for what they have done. Lets hope there is a future for secularism in Gujarat.

Tecuthsav web design Jquery et al
January 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Thiagarajar college of engineering is organising a tech festival named Tecuthsav from february 13 to february 17. I was part of the web designing teamin developing the website for tecuthsav.Especially the CSS and the UI design part which i worked with.It was really a fruitfull experience as i tried Jquery for the first time.Jquery is a javascript library released under GPL.It love in first sight for me with Jquery.I hate Java,javascript basically because i dont understand it coz of its clumsy syntax and stuff and due to python.Now what if javascript is as enjoyable as python, is thats what you feel when you use Jquery.
Check this
$(“#foobar”).click(function(){
$(“div”).css(“background”,”red”);
});
Now the above code snippet means on clicking the div.#foobar the background of all divs is changed to red.Now there is a variety of stuffs you can with jquery check here.Now i used Jquery in the menu of events visible in the site.I have given all the event rules as JSON files and on clicking a link it fetches the corresponding JSON file asynchronously.
There are also variety of pluggins availabe in jquery you can use for your benefut like calendar,animation etc.
Now this is the code i use to perform the JSON operations.
$(‘ul>li>ul>li>a’).click(function(){
var name=$(this).text();
var filename=’json/’+ name + ‘.json’;
//var filename=’json/SubtleKnife.json’;
//alert(filename);
$(‘#midbox’).empty();
$.getJSON(filename,function(data){
$.each(data,function(entryIndex,entry){
var html=’add the html stuff here with JSON data say event['name']‘
$(‘#midbox’).append(html);
});
});
});
Jquery is truly amazing to say the least for web designers it adds so much meaning to web design.Those of who like me hating javascript can try jquery to achieve nifty stuff.There are loads of pluggin associated with jquery which are truly amazing.Many javascript libraries are cryptic in nature but jquery gives user enormous power.If you are part of some web designing project and dont use Jquery you are missing something truly amazing and interesting.

TZP is an awesome movie about a beautiful nine year old boy Ishaan awasthi who suffers from dyslexia.He is not able to read or write properly yet he is highly creative especially in paintings,crafts eyc.His poor show in academics makes his parents annoyed who have no clue whatsoever about his disability.They force him into a boarding school and incomes Ram Shankar Nikumbh ( Aamir khan) an art teacher who also runs a separate school for specially gifted children.He brings out the inner potential of Ishaan by removing his anamoly.This movie criticises the way we treat children and the pressure on them due to academics.The songs are superb the one which plays in the background when Ishaan is left in the boarding school actually filled my eyes with tears.The dialogue that resonated in me was “If you wish to make your child compete in races breed horses why breed children”.Wow good stuff great work

The ghost of Nandigram
December 18, 2007 · Leave a Comment
The 24X7 media ensures that every incident gets over covered and the private media was in cloud nine when the left parties were cornered in the nandigram incident.The media got so over board that it in the process killed the broad principles on which Indian journalism stands on.There was even comparisons with the genocide that took place in Gujarat.To make things clear Nandigram incident was an attempt to capture territory.It all started with the West Bengal government announcing its plan to setup a chemical hub in Nandigram and the haldia authority unilaterally issued a notice regarding land for the project.Rumors were wild that land will be confiscated,mousques will be destroyed,no compensations will be paid and what not.The location of the chemical hub was selected as nandigram only after the legislature committee containing all political parties found it apt.Now there was an opportunistic alliance under the banner of BUPC containing forces from far-left to far-right.The house of the left sympathizers were looted,burnt,the panchayat office was set ablaze,the panchayat chairman a woman was abused and attacked.This all happened when the panchayat was discussing about the health care achievements of Nandigram.Twenty seven left sympathizers were killed mostly those who were willing to give land for the project.3500 people of Nandigram mostly left sympathizers were driven out of their homes and lived for eleven months in camps.Now what was the need of a movement when the chief minister himself has clarifies that there will be no project if the people does not wish it.Now there was no administration,no police in Nandigram for eleven months.The government wanted a political solution called for an all party meeting innumerable times which the opposition trianamool congress rejected what was the government expected to do.What about the plight of the people in the camps.
Amidst all this the private media channel CNN-IBN showed a clipping of a man shooting a person who’s identity no one is sure of.It comes to conclusion that it was a left worker who is a shooting.It comes up with a poll that “Is the cpi(m) hand in blood?”.The very next day the person who recorded that video(a freelance journalist) clarifies that he is not sure of that identity and circumstantial evidence shows that it was actually a BUPC worker.
Now think of a political party in J&K having an alliance with the Mujahetheens for political mileage.This is simillar to the trinamool having alliance with the maoists.It is a grave situation and the consequence of the mistake would be a threat to the nation.
