TCE needs Massive Reforms

February 20, 2007 · 3 Comments

Disclaimer:*This post is the observations of a student just certain suggestions to improve the college and not to hurt or make fun of the institution i respect*

Thiagarajar College of Engineering the institution i am part of it is entering into the golden jubilee celebrations. Some of my observations and suggestions as the college enters a new era.

College needs massive revamping of infrastructure to conduct international symposiums and conferences.

In a Knowledge Economy: This is an era of the knowledge process outsourcing ther are innumerable oppurtunities to harness and contribute.Engineering is a profession were you apply and innovate for the welfare of the society simillar to other professions like Doctors et al.Thus the college should promote knowledge based activities rather than *assignments* *tutorials* *internals* and*attendence*.Students are made to think as such placement itself as life hence the curiosity to learn or else to teach is getting extinguished.

The college should promote international conferences or participation in these events.Engineering should not be mere 13th,14th et al.Consider even SASTRA won the robotics contest at IIT kharagpur. Its high time we gear up our socks to conduct high class symposiums we need to conduct a tech fest on the scale of anna university but that requires sponsors.Kurukshetra was conducted with a fund of thirty lakhs. As a starting point we should conduct a online programming contest of the scale of bitwise and everyone should start a legacy.GLUGOT,SUN CLUb are in the right directions but majority of Tce students are not participating in these initiatives.

We need to create a knowledge awareness campaign of some sort hardly hundred students in tce know we haveĀ  a “mailserver” “Dns server” or to say the entire network architecture.

Stop with marks internals placements its the time to go big.Recognise the people who bring laurels to the college appreciate and indentify student potential give autonomy to student initiatives.

Python truly beautifull

February 20, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Python is a truly beautifull language with amazing features.I thought about the difficulties in writing code in an object oriented environment.Consider you are given a task to do some problem using any languages say sorting numbers our instinct will prepare C language how many of us will code it in *JAVA* .This is primarily because complexity of java syntax more the level of abstraction more you cant get the code means so these leads to >> “You effectively need to cram some syntax without concentrating in logic”.Thus *JAVA* is “Compile once and Debug EveryWhere”.I still remember howard roark in FountainHead ” Beauty rests on meaning any form conveys” take our human body an organ without any purpose cant convey anything beautifull.

I honestly believe python should be made part of the curriculum because some of the features in it are incomparable in any languages(leave alone PERL,PHP).

Consider function programming in python or the entire syntax of python gorgeous.Python is an interpretted language you have a interpretter to check things quickly amazing to be honest.

I just got a chance to have a glance at a book “Algorithm and datastructure using python” which has extensive implementation and algorithm analysis using python.Probably we can for a Python Interest Group in the college and suggest python as a language for studying Object Orientation.

Its one of the wonderfull languages students should learn and enjoy.Alas I get a comment in the horizon ” Oh ! python its for pp lab guys”.When will people flush their neural networks and clear all prejudice.

The harappan horse and the entire Aryan=Harappan debate broken!

February 5, 2007 · Leave a Comment

This in reference to the article in magazine supplement of THE HINDU dated 4 th febrauary topic:Towards a scientific study of the Indus Script .It is the result of culminated constant work on the indus script analysis of the script using computer data analysis that has led to the following result:

  • The writing of the indus script was from right to left
  • All attempts to read the indus script from right to left has failed
  • Computer analysis has shown that the Indus texts possess only suffixes, not prefixes or infixes. This indicates that the Harappan language was of the suffixing type (like Dravidian), not of the prefixing type (like Indo-Aryan).
  • The Indus civilisation was urban in character. The Vedic civilisation was rural and pastoral. There is hardly any description of city life in the Rig Veda.
  • The Indus seals depict many animals but not the horse. The chariot with spoked wheels is also not depicted in the Indus art. On the contrary, these are among the main features of the society depicted in the Rig Veda.
  • The Harappan religion, as far as we can make out from pictorial representations, included the worship of buffalo-horned male gods, mother goddesses, the pipal tree, serpents, and probably also phallic worship. Such modes of worship seem alien to the religion of the Rig Veda.

These examples (among many others) make it very improbable that the Harappan city dwellers were the same as the people of the Vedic culture.

More we look into the indus script there are more chances that it may be dravidian.

Speakers of aryan language merged with the dravidian speakers to provide the composite india.
So the entire argument that aryans were original settlers of India is baseless. The rss agenda of Akanda Bharath and aryan supremacy is striped nude. Thus if there is an argument that muslims and christians must leave India the aryans are also migraints they should also leave.

Then basically aryans were also nomads the language spoken by them was sanskrit and the entire argument that one language is superior than other is childish. The harrappan language might have a dravidian ancestor this doesn’t mean that dravidian languages are superior. So will the saffron brigade learn.Let us hope :-) .
